Obituary For Malissa Herndon

With humble respect, Sewell Mortuary in Grantville announces the transition of Malissa Herndon on October 19th, 2022.

The memorial service will be on October 24th, at 2 PM at Sewell Mortuary Chapel

Melissa Shonta Herndon was born August 21, 1979 to Mr. Bobby Herndon and Mrs. Sandra Berry.

She joined New Hope Baptist Church at an early age. Shonta later moved her membership to Mt Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Johnny Strickland, where she loved singing in the choir and serving her church any way she could.

At the age of 15, she was diagnosed with kidney disease, which she fought a long battle for 27 years. She did it with a smile and God was always on her side. She was never afraid to share her testimony about how good God had been to her. She was truly a living testimony.

Her greatest joy was her family especially her son, grandkids, nieces and nephews. She was the straight no chaser, cool and funny momma/auntie.

She was proceeded in death by her maternal grandparents, Ruby and Percy Collins, paternal grandparents, Nathaniel and Maryliza Herndon along with a host of aunts and uncles.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories her loving devoted mother Mrs. Sandra (Michael) Berry, father, Bobby (Beverlyn) Herndon, a son, Martinus Jarell Collins. Brother, Bobby (Trina) Reeves. Sisters Monica (Daniel) Franklin, Kristy (Warren) Morrow, Cassandra Herndon, Jessica Smith and Shynitra Johnson. 3 grandkids Alyria Collins, Nova Collins and baby Messiah on the way. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunt, uncles and friends. A special daughter-in-law to be Allison White. Special friends, sisters at heart, Lisa Harris, Crystal White, Tameka Strickland, Jackie Owens, Chloe Cheeves, Tasha King, Tomiko Tigner and Heather Thompson
