Obituary For Sammie Smith

With humble respect, Sewell Mortuary in Grantville announces the transition of Sammie Smith on April 26th, 2021.

Mr. Smith Lie in state at Leete Hill UMC 810 Hamilton Rd Lagrange Georgia 30241 May 1, 2021 10-11 pm.

Graveside service will be May 1, 2021 at 12pm at Meadow Gardens 3293 S. Hamilton Rd Lagrange GA.

Mr. Sammie Lee Smith was born March 29, 1933 to the late Reverend Roy Ezell Smith and Mary Lou Tucker Smith in Chipley (Pine Mountain), Georgia.

He joined Smith Chapel UMC at an early age. He was united in marriage to the late Pauline Lovette Smith, and unto that union eight children were born. He was employed by Yellow Dirt as a concrete finisher, Milliken for several years, and he was last employed at Interface flooring.

On Monday, April 26, 2021, his sunset at WellStar West Georgia Hospice.

In addition to his parents, he joined his brothers Eugene Smith, Henry Smith, Charlie Smith, Ruben Smith, Jimmy Smith, Lemmie Smith, Curtis Smith, Joseph Smith and Ezell Smith.

His memories remain to be cherished by his sisters; Earnestine Harris and Christine Fisher; his brothers, Luther Smith Sr. and Amos Smith; his children, Gene (Virginia) Smith, Mary J. Smith, Mary L. Smith (Ogletree), Sandra (George) Strozier, Vanessa (Michael) Dunson, Samuel (Darlene) Poythress, Paulette S. (James) Garrett, and Tony Poythress; 19 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
