On Sunday, September 23, 1934 in Warm Springs, Georgia in the Durand Community, Mr. Jamie Lewis Woods and Mrs. Carrie Lou Woods welcomed a son, Willie Lewis Woods into this world.

Willie received his formal education in the Meriwether School System and accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age and joined Trinity CME Church, Warm Springs, GA. He was a hard-working man, known as ‘Bro. Tic’, whose hands tilled the soil of Durand, GA and was a skilled entrepreneur. He was the owner of a construction company located in Lithonia, GA and provided employment opportunities to several family members and friends.

Willie moved his residence back to Meriwether County where he was united with his soulmate and companion of 42 years Carolyn (Lay) Boyd. He was employed by the Meriwether County School System (Transportation Dept) for 38 years, serving as a mechanic and supervisor, before retiring.

On Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at his home in Greenville, GA (Stovall), he completed his earthly journey. Bro. Tic will always be remembered as a Friend, Strong Man, Pioneer, Joyous, Clever, Brave, Loving Father and Grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, younger sister, Ruby Marie Woods, his son Keith O’Keefe Woods and three grandchildren, Carlos A (Peanut) Woods, Derrick Alford and Janiyah Bray.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving and devoted companion Carolyn (Lay) Boyd, six sons, Rickey Woods, Atlanta, GA; Leon Woods and Edward Woods, Lithonia Georgia; Reco Boyd, Marco Boyd, Stovall, GA; and Lashaun (Brittany) Woods, Grantville, GA. Three daughters: Patricia Ransom, Greenville, GA; Annie Cox, Newnan, GA; and Kameika Bray, Durand, GA; Nephew, Kervin (Melissa) Woods; Niece, Bridgette Bray; five cousins who were reared as brother and sisters: Johnny McKee, Joanne Pharr, Clara Mae Tiggs, Willie (Earlene) McKee, and James (Martha) McKee. His extended family: The Henry’s of Greenville, GA; 31 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; a host of nephews and nieces, cousins, and friends.

Willie, so fondly known as “Bro. Tic”, will be greatly missed. He was well respected by the Meriwether County residents who loved him dearly.
