Sewell Mortuary in Grantville respectfully announces the passing of Arthur Birts on 10/7/18.
Funeral service is 10/13/18 1:00 pm at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Luthersville GA. Visitation is 10/12/18 from 4:00-6:00 pm at Sewell Mortuary.
Rev. Arthur Lee Birts (Goodyman) was born in Meriwether County to the late Oscar and Elizabeth Birts on March 21, 1932. Arthur departed this earthly life onSunday, October7, 2018. He attended Meriwether County Public County School. He worked for William L. Bonnell Company for many years until he was called to the ministry. He was a devoted member of New Friendship Baptist Church where he served as pastor for many years until his health failed. He served at Rock Mills Baptist Church in Roanoke, Alabama and Sardis BaptistChurch in Barnesville, Georgia for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mrs. Mae Francis Amey; and twobrothers, Mr. Cever Lewis Birts and Joe Henry Birts.
He was united in marriage to the late Mable L. Connally Birts. He leaves to cherish his memories, four sons, Isidore Birts (Debra) of Locust Grove, GA, Carlos Terrell Birts of Luthersville, GA, Robert Lee Middlebrooks of Luthersville, GA, Samuel Dewayne Guyton of Atlanta, GA; one daughter, Debbie Adele Gates of Decatur, GA; thirteen grandchildren, Audronado D. Birts (Red), Raquel D. Birts, Carlandis Birts, April Horton, Jaiden Brown, Deyon Jones, Christian Jones, Cameron Jones, Tiayana Walker, Eddie King, Ashley Middlebrooks, Trinia Middlebrooks, Andre Barlow; five great grandchildren, Quenteria Birts, Amire Boswell, Sadie Rushin, Nicole Rushin and Antonio Rushin Jr.; six great great grandchildren, Shameya Rushin, Hailey Thomas, Tony Rushin Jr., Sincere Rushin, Mia Rushin, and Antwan Rushin; two sisters, Mary Harris (Floyd) of Gay, GA, Josephine Jackson (William) of Newnan, GA; one brother, Leonard Birts (Michelle) of Lagrange, GA; one aunt, Mrs. Mattie Pearl Reeves of Manchester, GA; sister-in-laws, Geraldine (Robert) Greene, Ophelia McGill, Emma Mae McGill, Martha McGill all of Gay, GA, Carolyn McGill of Riverdale, GA, Hattie Ann Blount of Luthersville, GA, Dianne McGill of Newnan, GA; two brother-in-laws, James (Lucille) McGill of Atlanta, GA, Curtis McGill of Gay, GA; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Special Thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Amey, Sr., Ms. Joanne Weaver and always on time Mary Jackson for all your special kindness and help during his sickness and Mrs. Linda Phillips thank God for ya'll.
