Sewell Mortuary respectfully announces the passing of Bennie Griggs on Friday, March 20, 2026. Bennie Griggs was born on Monday, July 24, 1950.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Sewell Mortuary Chapel.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Sewell Mortuary.

Bennie was born in Greenville, Ga on July 24, 1950 in the community of Baptist Hill. He gained his heavenly wings on March 20, 2026. 

Bennie was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie Sr. and Mary Griggs, his brother Nathaniel Griggs and 3 of his children, Rosalind and Virgil "Mike" Griggs and Anishkia Slayton. 

Bennie leaves to cherish his memories and celebrate his legacy, his beautiful wife, Penny Griggs, of LaGrange Ga; his children, JaMurrell Tucker, Eboni Griggs, Alexus Griggs, LaPorsha Gates, Marcus Linder, of LaGrange Ga; Linda (Jorge) Santiago, Lander Griggs, Daphane Blake, Kennissa Griggs, of Miami Fl; Kevin and Devin Slayton, of Thomaston Ga; and Benny Griggs; of California. 

He is also survived by his brother, Rev. Lamarr (Mary) Griggs and sister, Maryann Griggs, both of Detroit, Michigan and a host of grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, cousins, and friends, including his close friends, Tyrone McFarland and Frantz Philippe. Among those who held a special place in his heart was his cousins, who is like a brothers, Robert Tucker and Edward Meriwether. 

Bennie's life was marked by love, faith, and dedication. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
