Sewell Mortuary in Grantville respectfully announces the passing of Betty Tigner Portress on January 19th, 2018.

Funeral service is January 27th, 2018 12:00 noon at St. Paul CME Church in Lone Oak.

Visitation will be January 26th, 2018 from 1 to 6 pm at Sewell Mortuary in Grantville GA.

Betty Tigner Portress was born on October 7, 1928 to the late Ector Stevens and Mrs. Lurie Tucker Stevens. She departed this life on January 19, 2018.

She met and married her first love James Robert Tigner. After his passing many years later, she married Anderson Portress. After his death she never remarried.

Betty was a member of St. Paul C.M.E. Church for many years until her health failed. She was on the Usher Board and Missionary Board. She loved her family, friends, community and above all she loved GOD.

Aunt Betty raised two loving sons as if they were her own, Jerome and Renard Sewell. She worked for the Kamensky for many years and retired from Grantville Brown School in the Cafeteria. Aunt Betty loved to cook and bake cakes. Her wit, wisdom and kindness to others will never be forgotten.

She leaves to cherish and her memories to many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
