Sewell Mortuary respectfully announces the passing of Celia Smith, age 86, on Friday, April 10, 2026. Mrs. Smith was born on Thursday, September 7, 1939.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. at Branch Hebron Baptist Church in Greenville, Georgia.
Viewing will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Branch Hebron Baptist Church.
Mrs. Celia Watson Smith was born September 7,1939 to the late Robert Watson, Sr. and Mattie
Pearl Heard Watson. At an early age, she joined the Springfield Baptist Church in Greenville, GA.
Later, she moved her membership to Branch Hebron Baptist Church, where she served as a
faithful member until her health failed. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings,
Willie Frank Watson and Annette Watson Parks.
Celia attended the Meriwether County School System in Greenville, GA. She worked for the
Meriwether County School System for 38 years and drove a bus for 36 years. She was also very
influential in her church as well. She started the youth program and served on the Mother's Board
and Missionary Board. Also, she received many awards for her many accomplishments, including
being a "Trail Blazer".
Celia entered into Holy Matrimony to the late Deacon Charles Upshaw Smith, Sr. on June 6,
1959. Their union was blessed with 6 children: Charles Upshaw Smith, Jr. (Elmira- deceased),
Mattie Ruth Smith, Annette Smith (Allen Brown), Jeannette Smith (deceased), Ethel Elaine Smith,
and Micheal Lewis Smith (deceased); grandchildren: Khyrstine Smith, Micheal Lewis Smith, Sr.,
(Kirsten), Alexandria Towns (Marcus Towns) and Wesley Smith (Ravon Smith), Rodderick
Murrah, Richardo Murrah: 9 great grandchildren: Alexis Phillips, Knatya Smith, Micheal Cox,
Mikyla Smith, Michael Smith Jr., Nahla Smith, Lauryn Smith, Kharter-James Bussey and Triniti
Smith. She also leaves to cherish her memory a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
