Mr. Charles Edward Varner, son of the late Gus and Arlie Gates-Varner, was born on
February 10, 1950 in Meriwether County, Georgia. On Monday, February 16, 2026,
he peacefully transitioned to his eternal rest. Charles was the middle sibling of seven
children.
He received his education through the Greenville City School System and was a proud
member of Greenville Consolidated School class of 1968. After graduating from high
school, he moved to Atlanta and worked at the Ford Plant and Air Tread for a number
of years.
Upon leaving Atlanta, Charles moved to LaGrange, Georgia, and worked various jobs
until he became disabled. He then returned to Greenville and has been an active
member of the Greenville Senior Center where he became an intricate part of one big
family, of whom he loved dearly.
His early Christian walk began when he joined Mt. Pilgrim Baptist church, however, his
re-dedication to his Lord and Savior ignited a fire in him that couldn’t be extinguished.
Before moving to New Springfield Missionary Baptist church, he never missed an
opportunity to serve and worship God.
Charles was a very loving person with an infectious personality. He was very special to
many people to whom he brought an abundance of laughter, wisdom, and humor. He
enjoyed spending time with friends and family, gardening, and cooking. What warmed
his heart most was seeing the accomplishments of children and grandchildren.
Preceding Charles in death are his parents Gus and Arlie Gates- Varner, son Christopher
Huzzie, Brothers Leroy Varner, Larry Varner, and Ronnie Varner, and sister Mary Nell
Dowell.
He leaves to cherish his memory, daughter Stacey (Frank) Humphries of Powder
Springs, GA., daughter-in-law Tina Huzzie of LaGrange, GA., four grandchildren
