Sewell Mortuary respectfully announces the passing of Charles Ira Hawkins Jr. on Saturday, May 16, 2026. Mr. Hawkins was born on July 13, 1944.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 12:00 noon at Greater Jehovah Baptist Church in Grantville, Georgia.

Public visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Sewell Mortuary.

Charles Ira Hawkins, Jr. gained his wings on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at Piedmont Fayette Hospital. He was born on July 13, 1944 in Grantville, Georgia to the late Ira Hawkins Senior and Minnie Ellen Carter Hawkins. 

He was a 1962 graduate of Central high school in Newnan Georgia. After graduating High School, he joined the United States Army where he served for three years (1962 to 1965). Charles started working for Southern Railway in Atlanta Georgia, where he was employed for five years and from there, he was employed at General Motors Lakewood Plant where he remained for 20 years. 

He was married to Emma Jean Jones Hawkins for 60 years (1966 to 2026). They are blessed with two children, a daughter, Wendy Hawkins and a son, Charles Eric Hawkins(Tawana). He also leaves to cherish his memory, one grandson, DeAndre Hawkins (Melanie); one granddaughter, Eva Lynn Hawkins; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives. 

Charles joined the Greater Jehovah Baptist Church at a very early age. He was president of the B.J. Davis Gospel Choir at Greater Jehovah for over 15 years. Rest in peace. You will be missed by all.
