Graveside Service
With humble respect, Sewell Mortuary in Grantville announces the transition of Charles Smith Sr. on Tuesday, September 15th, 2020.
Graveside service will be held on September 22nd, at 11:30 AM at Branch Hebron Baptist Church in Greenville Georgia.
Visitation will be on September 21st, from 3 to 6 PM at Sewell Mortuary.
Deacon Charles Upshaw Smith Sr. was born December 3, 1937, to the late Willie Henry Smith, Sr., and Ruth Emma Parks Smith. He was a life long member of the Branch Hebron Missionary Baptist Church faithfully serving until his health failed. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Willie H. Smith, Jr., Mary R. Freeman, Robert L. Smith, Irvin L. Smith Sr., James P. Smith, and Madison L. Smith.
Charles attended school in Meriwether County School System in Odessadale Community. Charles, "Mr. Fix It", as a child was known for taking things apart and putting them back together working on the family farm. Charles was able to master the trades of electrical and plumbing providing quality work to all.
He entered into Holy Matrimony to Celia Watson on June 6, 1959. This union was blessed with 5 children, Charles Upshaw Smith Jr. (Elmira-deceased), Mattie Ruth Smith, Mrs. Allen Leon Brown (Annette), Jeannette Smith (deceased), and Ethel Elaine Smith Cox; Grandchildren: Khyrstine Celest Smith Harris (Martez), Michael Lewis Smith, Sr., (Kristen), Alexandria Knatya Cox Towns (Marcus), Wesley Trevor Watson Smith, Rodderick Murrah, and Ricardo Murrah and 13 great grand children; Along with his family, he leaves to cherish his memory a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Special request by Charles U. Smith Sr. to his family toward his sunset was for all of his family to get together on October 10, 2020 to fellowship with one another.
