Sewell Mortuary respectfully announces the passing of Emma L. Grimes on Friday, April 24, 2026. Mrs. Grimes was born on Monday, February 4, 1946.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan, Georgia.
Ms. Emma Lue Grimes was born on February 4, 1946 to the late Milton and Vertis Grimes, in Coweta County. Emma graduated from Central High School in Newnan,Georgia class of 1963. After completing high school, Emma attended Albany State where she studied Early Childhood Education. She later joined Fannie L. Walker Chapter #85 of Eastern Star. She was baptized at Newnan Chapel United Methodist Church, where she remained a devoted member for many years until her health began to decline.
She worked at the Bank of the South, Eckerd Warehouse, Coweta County afterschool program, and later found a career at the Georgia Department of Labor where she retired.
Throughout her lifetime, she enjoyed singing in the choir, babysitting, shopping, and reading magazines.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Milton and Vertis Grimes; and one sister, Mildred Glenn.
Emma leaves to cherish her memories, one son, Gregg Morris; two granddaughters, Tameka Hunter and Tia Morris; three great-grandchildren, Kiry Woods, Emauri Herring, and King Herring; two sisters, Tammy Grimes-Andrews and Vivian Grimes; a handful of nieces and nephews; and very devoted friends, Willie Neal Lanier, Marsche Favors, and Frances Matthews.
