Obituary For Eunice Jean Mitchell

Sewell Mortuary respectfully announces the passing of Eunice Jean Mitchell on Friday, December 26, 2025. Ms. Mitchell was born on December 23, 1944.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the Sewell Mortuary Chapel.

Public viewing will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Sewell Mortuary.

Eunice Jean Mitchell, affectionately called “Jean” by many who loved her, was born on Dec. 23 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Dunson of Hogansville, GA. Jean attended school in Heard County, Georgia where she played basketball and accepted Christ at an early age.

She regularly attended services at Wadley Chapel before moving to Houston, TX where she became a member at New Peaceful Rest Baptist Church. Jean served faithfully as church secretary, sang in the choir, and served as Pastor Aide.

For many years, she worked as a nurse aide and enjoyed a fulfilling 20-plus-year career as a contractor for a moving company alongside her husband Curtis.

Jean met her beloved Curtis in Houston, TX, where they married in 1990 and enjoyed a decades-long union. The pair was inseparable, taking cross-country road trips with their grandchildren in tow. Jean was a loving mother to two children, five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

She was a bold, spirited soul who loved to sing, don the chicest outfits, and garden. At times, her passion was confused for stubbornness, yet those who knew her well loved that part of her the most.

Jean was preceded in death by Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Dunson (parents), Curtis Mitchell (husband), Evelyn Paige (sister), Charlie Dunson (brother), Virgina Ann Brown (sister), Clifford Dunson (brother), Elaine Hamilton (sister).

Memories of Jean’s beautiful life will be cherished by her son Bobby (Regina), daughter Andrea (Dexter), grandchildren Bobby Joe, Lula, Liberace, Julius (Nadia), and Dexter (Tennissia). Great grandchildren Librianna, Erin, Jayden, Alana, Donta, Julius, Hadi, her sisters Velma McClurkin (Dan), Darlene Dunson, Joyce Almond, Jackie Lawrence, Ola Step (Horace), and Hazel Ellis (Booker), along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Arrangements are entrusted to Sewell Mortuary.
