With humble respect, Sewell Mortuary in Grantville announces the transition of George L. Prather on April 6th, 2019.
Funeral service is April 14th, 2019, 1:00 PM at Mt Pilgrim Baptist Church in Greenville GA.
George Lee Prather was born on June 9, 1933 to the late Jennie Lee and Idus Prather. He transitioned from his earthly home to his Heavenly home on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at West Georgia Hospice.
George joined the Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church at an early age. He was united in holy matrimony on November 22, 1954 to Virginia Bernice Hardaway and to this union, five children were born, Layman, Vivian, Earnest, Juanita, and Joanne, who preceded him in death. George was employed for 11 years by the Georgia State Highway and later joined the Buffing Department at William L. Bonnell, Inc., presently Tredegar Industries, where he was employed for approximately 30 years. He was highly respected and known as the most patient person when it came to train new hires in his department. George had several hobbies, one of which was gardening. He also had a love for fishing and cooking out with his family and friends.
George leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 65 years, Virginia Prather; children, Layman Prather of Woodbury, Georgia, Vivian Prather Byrd (Eric) of Greenville, Georgia, Earnest Prather (Shorana) of Woodbridge, Virginia, and Juanita Strozier (Mitchell) of Lagrange, Georgia; 11 grandchildren: Donyetta Ferguson, Christopher Prather, Jessica Prather, Nicholas, Denita White, Valencia Deloach, Victoria Prather, Devonte Ferguson, Jonathan Prather, Charnise Tigner, and Madison Prather; 6 Great grandchildren: Monique Ferguson, Myeshia Ferguson, Mykia Ferguson, Cashis Prather, Nicholas Ferguson Jr., and Tanner Ferguson; One aunt and uncle Catherine Gates and Alonzo Prather (Greenville, Ga); One niece Joyce Hutchinson (Willie); 6 sisters-in-laws and 4 brother in-laws; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends
