K K Sewell Funeral Home in Manchester respectfully announces the passing of Jimmie L. Thornton Sr. on 9/14/2017.

Visitation is 9/18/2017 from 3 pm to 7 pm at K K Sewell Funeral Home in Manchester.

Funeral service is 9/19/2017, 1:00 pm at Mt. Airy Baptist Church in Talbotton GA.

Jimmie Lewis Thornton, Sr. was born June 22, 1936 in Talbot County, Georgia to the late Mr. Will and Mrs. Myra Dubignon Thornton. He entered eternal rest Thursday, September 14, 2017 at his home.

At an early, age he gave his life to Christ and joined Mount Airy Baptist Church in Talbotton, Georgia where he served faithfully until his health declined.

Jimmie attended public schools in Talbot County, Georgia. He retired from Georgia Kraft Company and Mead Corporation after 42 years of service. Jimmie loved gardening and carpentry projects.

Jimmie was joined in holy matrimony to Joyce Mae Barron in 1961. Joyce preceded him in death in March of 2017. To this union of 56 years, five children were born. He leaves five children to cherish his memories, Jimmy L. Thornton, Jr. of Talbotton, Georgia, Pennie T. Copeland (Chester) of Waverly Hall, Georgia, Kerry Thornton (Deborah) of Talbotton, Georgia, Felecia T. Moore (William Jerome) of LaGrange, Georgia, and Michael C. Thornton of Florence, South Carolina. He leaves eight grandchildren Jonathan Copeland of Honolulu, Hawaii, Joshua Copeland of Atlanta, Georgia, Ellison Thornton of Talbotton, Georgia, Jessica and Whitney Moore of LaGrange, Georgia, Mykara Lesesne (Thaddeus) of South Carolina, Kristine, Micaelyn, and Christian Thornton of Florence, South Carolina.

Jimmie is survived by four sister-in-law's, Hattie Dixon of Marietta, GA, Mrs. Emily Ford (Jeff) of Woodland, GA, Lorraine Thornton, Atlanta, GA, Ruby Barron of Youngstown, OH; five brother-in-law's Clyde Barron (Louise) of East Point, GA, Norman Barron (Gerlene) of Woodland, GA, Jimmy Lee Barron of Decatur, GA, Olen Barron of Manchester, GA, and Daniel Couch of Talbotton, GA along with a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly. Jimmie was blessed to also have had a special caregiver, Patricia Carson of Roberta, Georgia.

He was preceded in death by siblings Moses Thornton, Bertha Lee Thornton Jackson, Sallie Mae Thornton Leonard, John W. Thornton, Annie Laura Thornton Carreker, Fannie Emma Thornton Pinkston, and Delay Thornton.
