Sewell Mortuary in Grantville respectfully announces the passing of John Swanson on November 11th, 2018.

Funeral service is December 11th, 2018, 11:00 am at Mt Pilgrim Baptist Church in Greenville Ga.

Dea. John Albert Swanson was born November 27, 1924 in Meriwether County, Greenville, Georgia to the late Mother Ophelia and Dea. Joseph Swanson. He was the only child.

He attended elementary and high school. John enlisted in the Marine serving for three plus years, earning awards including Mark-Manship, Victory Medal. After an honorable discharge, he moved to Flint Michigan, later moving to Detroit, Michigan where he was employed with Chrysler for thirty plus years. He married Bernice Boddie who preceded him in death and to this union three children was born, Joan, Michelle, Cheryl. Later years he met and married Lucille Blandburg who preceded him in death. Two children was born, Angela and Kelvin. John married Juanita Strickland and was fond of her two children, David and LaToria. At an early age, he joined Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church. He was a deacon, choir member (he loved to sing). When in Michigan, he attended Leland Baptist Church. He served both of them faithfully. John was a well known person that didn't meet any strangers.

John leaves to cherish his memory, wife, seven children, grandchildren, cousins and friends; special cousins, Lizzie Dozier and Dea. Eddie Reeves.
