With humble respect, Sewell Mortuary in Grantville announces the transition of John W Whatley on September 3rd. 2021.

The funeral service will be at Shiloh Baptist Church in Gay, GA at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 11th.

Visitation is from 4-7 pm on Friday, September 10th at the Mortuary.

John Wesley Whatley also known as "Duck" was born February 27, 1965 to the late Joelynn and Willene Traylor Whatley. He was the fourth of five children. He joined St. Paul Holiness Church of Alvaton, Georgia. He attended East Coweta High School. He worked at Whatley Logging until his health failed him. His hobbies were working on cars and logging.

He married Salie Kate Mitchell in 2000. To this union three lovely children were born.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother; aunties Betty McGruder and Vurla Mae Robinson; uncles Charles Render and John Wesley Whatley.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Salie K. Whatley; his children Marcus (Dana) Whatley of Newnan, GA, Temeka (Errol) Williams of Grantville, GA, Nina (Nigel) Bernard of Forest Park, GA, Aimee (Bobby) Hand of LaGrange, GA, Jessica Whatley of Hogansville, GA, Alicia Mitchell of Gay, GA, and Shajuan Prather of Hogansville, GA; twenty grandchildren; two sisters, Sandra (Luther) Alexander of Senoia, GA and Vurlene Jackson of Turin, GA; two brothers, Joelynn (Sandra) Whatley of Haralson, GA and Stanley Whatley of Gay, GA; aunts Annie Ruth Dennis of Senoia, GA and Betty Traylor of Newnan, GA; uncle Joe Louis Whatley of Haralson, GA; two sister-in-laws Shirley Rosser of Sharpsburg, GA and Jo Ann (Charles) Anderson of Gay, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends; three special friends.
