Obituary

Elder Mack Henry Godfrey, lovingly known as Buddell, was born the 4th of 11 children on July 28, 1944 in Greenville, GA to Mrs. Doris "Teen" Godfrey and the late Mr. Willie James Godfrey. Mack was active in the Greenville community until leaving for Atlanta to pursue growth opportunity.

In addition to finding employment in Atlanta, Mack found the love of his life. He was united in holy matrimony with Gloria J. Dowdle in 1964 and to their union five children were born. Mack joined Red Oak Grove Baptist Church at an early age where he was member and also served as a deacon. Later he became an active member at Souls for Christ Church of God in Christ where he faithfully served as a church Elder until his health declined.

Mack was employed as an Operating Engineer who operated heavy equipment. He was a long time member of Union Local 926. Mack was not only a loving father to his children, he was a father figure to many young people in his communities and extended family. Mack was preceded in death by his daughter, Bridgette V. Godfrey and his grandson, Michael A. Godfrey II.

On November 4, 2015, God whispered in his ear and said, "come home my child and rest." he leaves to cherish in his memory his loving and dedicated wife of 51 years, Gloria J. Godfrey, his mother, Doris Godfrey of Greenville, GA, four children, Barbara (Wayne) Wilson, Brenda Godfrey, Michael (Erica) Godfrey and his baby girl Belinda Godfrey all of Gay, GA; 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 4 brothers, Leroy (Emma) Godfrey, Willie Melvin (Jessie) Godfrey, Render "Randolph" (Beverly) Godfrey and Gary Godfrey, 3 sisters, Mary James Brown, Maxine (Lamar) Duffie, Elaine (Henry) Douglas, a host of other relatives and friends and a special person who went beyond the call of just blood brother, but was his friend and closest male companion, Leroy Godfrey.
