On Friday, August 28, 2026 Ms. Margie Lorraine Cooper departed the world and is
now resting. She was the daughter of the late Margaret and Willie Norman Reeves, Sr.
She attended Greenville Consolidated High School and at an early age joined Mount
Pilgrim Baptist Church in Greenville, GA.
Margie was a smart and ambitious individual who graduated in 1969 at the top of
her class and headed to Washington, DC with a classmate for a government grant.
The program ended and her friend returned to Greenville, but Margie stayed in DC an
additional 3 months with her brother Charles Reeves. She then got a job at American
Wholesale Mattresses, where she worked for about 2 years. Her next position was at
GC Murphy in Eastover for around a year, all while taking computer courses at the
University of the District of Columbia. She landed a federal job with the Department
of Labor in 1973 as a Computer Specialist. She worked for the Department of Labor
until her retirement in 2005. Following her retirement, Margie left Washington, DC
and returned to Greenville, GA to be a caretaker for her mother until her passing on
February 14, 2008. Margie enjoyed shopping in Newnan on Saturdays and LaGrange
on Mondays, spending time at the Senior Citizens Center from Tuesdays – Thursdays
for the games and camaraderie, and attending Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church every
3rd Sunday. Her son, Antonio, left DC for Greenville in 2019 and later became her
caretaker.
On March 3, 2020, Margie was in a horrific rollover car accident that left her bedbound.
She never lost her spirits and still questioned why she couldn’t go to Wal-Mart, the
Center or to Church. It was about 2 years in when she accepted her new circumstances
and made the best of it. Although she could not attend church in person, Antonio bought
church to Margie every week by playing spiritual music on “Gospel Sundays” in their
home, a new routine that they both enjoyed while doing wound care and bathtime
rituals. Her son was constantly at her side from 2020 on, not knowing what to do, he
was pointed in the right direction by caring medical professionals and became her
devoted caretaker. Antonio quickly learned the ropes from CNAs, RNs, and other home
health professionals while Margie was bedbound for her last six years. She remained
in high spirits and would still plan for future trips to Wal-Mart.
Her last year, she was in an out of the hospital from April through August. Eventually
she was placed on life support and the decision was made for her to peacefully
transition on Tuesday, August 25. On Friday, August 28 at 4 a.m., Margie was called
home. Her son was by her side holding her hand for her entire ICU stay, through her
very last breath.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Willie Norman Reeves,
Sr., her siblings James Arthur Reeves, Alfred Jerome Reeves, Annie Lillian Reeves
(Gray), Willie Norman Reeves, Jr., and Bobbie Lee Reeves. Margie leaves to cherish her
memories: her son, Antonio McKinley Cooper, one grandson, Dalonte Washington, her
beloved cats Kitty Boo Boo and Patches, her brothers Charles Reeves, Simon Reeves,
her sister Rebecca and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and loving friends.
