With humble respect, Sewell Mortuary in Grantville announces the transition of Maurice Mathis on April 8th, 2023.

The funeral service will be Saturday, April 15th, at 2 PM at Sewell Mortuary Chapel.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 PM on Friday the 14th.

Maurice Cortez Mathis was born on September 24, 1988, to Patreece LaSharn Sanders and the late Kevin Maurice Mathis in Atlanta, Georgia. He made his transition from this earthly life on April 8, 2023.

Maurice began his Christian experience at an early age by joining the Atlanta Christian Church in Atlanta, Georgia. Once he became an adult he transferred his church membership over to the OutReach Church where he was a faithful member for many years.

Maurice was survived by his fiancée Charlotte Reeves; her kids and grandkids.

Maurice attended Fulton County Public Schools and was a graduate of Benjamin Banneker High School in Atlanta, Georgia. He also attended Mississippi elta Community College for Music in Greenwood, Mississippi.

Maurice was employed with 13 Stories in Newnan, Georgia for many years where he was the Sound Technician. He became a security guard for Mainline Aviation in 2021.

Maurice loved music, and his grandmother Mrs. Bobbie Mathis noticed his gift at an early age and encouraged him to pursue a music career. Maurice created his own business, Halftime Entertainment where he would provide music for weddings, churches, parties, and even schools. Maurice enjoyed writing and being in plays, he was also in the movie rumline and even a music video. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his family, grilling, cooking, and creating music.

Maurice was known as “Rece” to some and “ReceCup” to others, he was a very thoughtful man, and he would do anything to see others happy. He was known for always making someone laugh.

He leaves to cherish his memory: His mother Patreece LaSharn Sanders his two siblings, Marquia Sanders and Markus Sanders of Atlanta, Georgia. A host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving relatives and friends.
