With humble respect, Sewell Mortuary in Grantville announces the transition of Rosa Lee Godfrey on June 15th, 2024.
Her Story January 10, 1922 -June 15, 2024 Rosa Lee Godfrey was born on January 10, 1922 to Virgil and Hattie Norris. Rosa Lee attended school at Shiloh Baptist Church and expressed her love for Christ at an early age when she went on to become a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.
On February 8, 1939, Rosa Lee embarked on a journey of love when she married JD Godfrey. Their union, which lasted over seven decades, was a testament to enduring love and commitment. Together, they were blessed with five children, to whom Rosa Lee imparted wisdom and strong family values.
Beyond her role as a mother, Rosa Lee was a skilled seamstress. She also worked tirelessly on the farm where she tended to the land, cultivating an array of crops. Rosa Lee's garden bloomed with colors and fragrances that mirrored her nurturing spirit. Her garden was a testament to her ability to nurture all forms of life. In addition to her ability to tend to her family, the farm, and her garden, Rosa Lee's kitchen consisted of many flavors and aromas. Her skills as a cook and baker were legendary, and her famous black walnut cake quickly became a symbol of joy, love, and community.
On Saturday, June 15, 2024 God embraced Rosa Lee into His arms and enfolded her in His love for a peaceful journey home. Memories will forever linger in the hearts, minds, and souls of her children: Hattie (Herman) Green of Atlanta, Georgia, Eugene (Sylver) Godfrey of Senoia, Georgia, Ermogene (Raymond) Sinkfield of Sharpsburg, Georgia and JoAnn Clark Blakely of Lithonia, Georgia; her sister, Maggie Samuels of Gay, Georgia; her sister- in-law Velma Godfrey of Luthersville, Georgia; eighteen grandchildren, thirty one great- grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews
