Funeral Service
With humble respect, Sewell Mortuary in Grantville announces the transition of Samuel T. Thornton on June 20th, 2024.
The funeral service will be on June 29, 2024, at 1 pm at Total Faith Missionary Church 104 Railroad St Luthersville GA 30251
Interment will follow at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church 2950 Primrose Rd in Greenville Ga
Samuel Thomas Thornton, known affectionately as Henry Sam, passed away June 20, 2024, in East Point, Georgia, at the age of 80. Born on January 7, 1944, in Moreland, Georgia, he was a lifelong resident of the state and cherished its rich, natural beauty - a passion reflected in his love for fishing.
Henry Sam dedicated many years of service to companies such as Graybar, Wright-Lopez and Ansco, contributing diligently to each role he undertook. Fishing was not just a hobby but a reflection of his calm and patient demeanor, often spending hours by the water, which brought him immense peace and joy!
He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his family. He is survived by his children, Correta Brown of College Park, GA, Edward Thornton (Shirley) of Hinesville, GA, Jerry Thornton of Atlanta, GA, and Debry Smith (Curry) of Riverdale, GA, his sisters Mattie Rosser (John), Eula Nesbit, Ollie Parks, and brothers Thomas and Curtis Thornton also survive him.
Henry Sam was a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren and twenty one great-grandchildren, all of whom he adored deeply. His extended family includes numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends who will miss his warm conversations and spontaneous road trips.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Bessie Thornton, his brothers Robert and James Thornton and sisters Mary Ann Heard and Betty Jean Owens.
