Sewell Mortuary in Grantville respectfully announces the transition of Shirley Wood on 3-18-2016.
Funeral service is Wednesday March 23rd at 1:00 PM from Mt. Zion Baptist Church 2255 Coweta-Heard Road in Corinth GA.
INTERMENT: Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery
Mrs. Wood was born on March 13, 1942 (celebrated on March 31st)to the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred and Julia Reeves in Meriwether County, Lutherville, GA.
Mrs. Wood receive her formal education through the Meriwether County Public School System.
She join Fellowship Baptist Church in Greenville, Georgia at an early age. Later in life she joined Mount Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Johnny Strickland, where she served as the chairman of the fellowship hall, Vice President of the church choir and she served as a faithful member of the church.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to Hugh Wood Jr. on February 17,19____. This union brought fourth three children Jimmy (Rebecca) Orr of Newnan, GA., Hugh Allen Wood Jr III of Newnan GA., Charlotte (LaLa) Reeves of Newnan, GA. Two goddaughters Peggy(Kevin) McCrary of Atlanta, GA.and LaTonya (Punkin) Hopper of Atlanta, GA. Twelve grandchildren, two great grandchildren, four special grandchildren.
Mrs. Wood was a entrepreneur of several businesses (Mrs. Kitty Tavern) before retiring. In her leisure time she enjoyed singing in the church choir, serving on the usher board, sewing, gardening, and testifying before God. Sister Wood enjoyed helping others. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to her family members.
Mrs. Shirley Ann Reeves Wood was truly blessed. She departed this life on March 18, 2016 she was preceded in death by her loving husband Hugh Wood Jr., who she loved dearly. Father Fred Reeves, mother Julia Reeves, sister Evelyn (Howard) Zachery, sister Lilly Mae (Stalling) Owens, sister Linda (Perry) Hamilton, brother Hugh Reeves, brother Rufus Lee Reeves, brother Edward James Reeves, brother Fred (Ruthie) Reeves Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory one sister Ruby (Percy) Collins and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and friends.
