Willie Mary Middlebrooks was born and raised in Meriwether County. She was born June 1, 1931 to the late Atticus Mathis, Sr. and Mrs. Annie Lou Mathis Cheny. She was a member of St. Paul C.M.E. Church where she served faithfully until her health failed.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her daughter, Sis. Susie Sims; two grandsons, Demetrius Sims and Xavier Sims (Paulett); two sisters, Doris (James) Hobbs, Betty Jordon; and one brother, Atticus Mathis, Jr. (Annie); nieces, Dorothy Wilburn (Billy), Rita (Bernard) Hayes, Vickie Davenport, Patricia (Floyd) Willis, Tonika (Keith) Ellison, Tracy (David) Copeland, Debra Whittaker (Chris); nephews, Toris (Tonika) Mathis, Gary Davenport, Steven Mathis, Jimmy Hobbs; five step-children; a host of relatives and friends.
